The Cashmere Edit: A Timeless Investment for Every Australian Woman

At Vic and Bert, we believe that building a wardrobe with pieces that feel comfortable, look elegant and last for years starts with choosing quality fabrics. Cashmere knitwear is one of those classic wardrobe essentials, valued for its lightweight warmth and natural breathability. From cool Melbourne mornings to coastal weekend escapes and relaxed dinners with friends, a quality cashmere piece is an easy choice for a wide range of occasions. With a focus on responsible sourcing and quality craftsmanship, our cashmere is designed to become a long-term wardrobe staple for all Australian women.

In this guide, we'll look at what makes cashmere knitwear unique, how we prioritise sourcing our cashmere responsibly, and how to care for your garments so they stay in excellent condition for years.

Why Cashmere Knitwear Is So Special

Our cashmere is produced from the fine undercoat of Mongolian cashmere goats, creating fibres that are remarkably soft, breathable and insulating. The result is a knit that is warm without feeling bulky, making it ideal for Australia's changing climate.

Unlike heavier wool garments, cashmere naturally helps regulates body temperature. It keeps you warm on cooler days while remaining breathable enough for milder weather. Beyond its practicality, cashmere has a classic look that never feels outdated. Rather than following short-lived fashion trends, our beautifully designed cashmere pieces offer natural sophistication that looks amazing year after year.

Benefits of Investing in V+B'S Quality Cashmere Knitwear

Quality cashmere offers more than superior softness. It provides comfort, versatility and resilience, and to top it off, ours is sustainably sourced.

Our cashmere has undergone special treatments to reduce pilling, maintain durability, and traps air to form a natural barrier against the cold. Despite being lightweight, cashmere provides excellent insulation, making it ideal for layering during Australia's cooler months while remaining comfortable in milder weather.

Just as important to us is how our cashmere is sourced. The mill we work with is committed to ethical and socially responsible practices, prioritising environmental protection, animal welfare and sustainability. With full traceability from raw fibre back to the farms, transparency is maintained throughout the entire production process.

This commitment has earned the mill Good Cashmere Standard (GCS) certification, which supports responsible animal welfare, environmental protection, and the livelihoods of cashmere farmers and their communities. This certification gives us confidence that our cashmere is produced responsibly and sustainably.

The V+B Guide to Cashmere Knitwear

Our cashmere knitwear comes in a variety of styles. Whether you're dressing for work, weekends or special occasions, there is a cashmere piece that will become your go-to throughout the year.

Cashmere Knits

A classic crew neck or V-neck knit is a wardrobe essential. Layer them easily over shirts or under jackets during winter while remaining comfortable on their own during cooler spring and autumn days. Our picks this season? It’s hard to go past the Colin Knit, crafted from 5gg cashmere, featuring a relaxed shape and raglan sleeves. We are equally in love with the Roger and Francis Knits.

Cashmere Half Sleeve Knits & Vests

If you’ve been shopping with us for a while, you’ll know how much we love half sleeve knits. Wear them alone, over long sleeve tees, shirts, dresses - the possibilities are endless! At V+B, we’ve found the Isabel Half Sleeve Knit to be on high rotation, made in a soft rib with a slightly A-line shape. Although tough to pick only 3, we also adore the Libby Knit and Martha Vest.

Cashmere Accessories

The cashmere obsession at V+B doesn’t stop at clothing. We’ve created accessories that will keep you warm and bring a point of difference to your look. Think ultra soft fibres and fun pops of colour. The Bonnie Scarf is a best seller for a reason, crafted from 100% cashmere with hand-stitch details. Other favourites include the Viv Gloves and our classic Beanie.

Caring for Your Cashmere: Our Top Tips

Proper care helps preserve the beauty and longevity of your knitwear.

Wash Gently

Hand wash in cool water using a detergent specifically designed for delicate fibres. Avoid harsh chemicals or bleach.

Dry Naturally

Lay garments flat on a clean towel to dry. Hanging wet knitwear may stretch the fibres and alter the garment's shape.

Store Carefully

Fold cashmere rather than hanging it. This helps maintain the garment's structure and prevents stretching.

Remove Pilling Correctly

Occasional pilling is natural with premium fibres. Use a quality cashmere comb or fabric shaver gently to keep your knitwear looking fresh.
